In the ever-evolving landscape of sustainable business practices, Lenovo’s recent move to Farnborough Business Park is a step towards setting new standards in sustainability and corporate responsibility. Their 20,000 sq ft offices represent not only a space for innovation but a commitment to environmental consciousness.

Their ambition to futureproof their operations and underline their values has awarded Lenovo a gold Ska rating, which places their offices among the best of the best when it comes to sustainable fit-outs and demonstrates they’ve worked to ensure the biggest impact for their budget on sustainability.

The electronics and software manufacturer closely collaborated with Frasers Property to create a high-quality workspace for its growing team, saying “We wanted a location that would provide a smarter workplace for all and a space for creativity to create a sense of purpose and belonging.”

This commitment to planet, place and people is underlined by the sense of community on Farnborough Business Park, with a busy event calendar, including charity events to support Frasers Property’s Social Value goals and outdoor exercise classes to promote wellbeing, plus many food and drink pop-ups to encourage connection and networking across the park.

Sustainable spaces

But what exactly is a Ska rating? Well, it’s a rigorous and comprehensive environmental assessment method, developed by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). The goal? To ensure that office spaces are not only energy efficient and functional but also environmentally conscious.

A collaborative approach

Lenovo’s journey to gold Ska was made possible through its close relationship with Frasers Property. Together they carried out a comprehensive pre-assessment of what the new BREEAM Very Good offices had to offer from its mechanical and electrical systems to a detailed analysis of the existing fit-out and the park’s overall commitment to sustainability, which aligned perfectly with Lenova’s own science-based targets for Net Zero.

A green fitout

Lenovo’s pathway to sustainability also went beyond just design, with the fit-out process involving recycling a substantial portion of the existing materials and furniture to reduce waste and its carbon footprint.

Park appeal

While offering first class connectivity with excellent transport links and a drive to promote sustainable travel across the park including free Ryde bikes and electric car charging points, Farnborough Business Park has also gained its own fair share of accolades for its contribution to creating high quality spaces.

Farnborough became the world’s first business park to gain a three-star ranking on the FITWEL system. This means it meets best practice standards for its design and operation to support holistic health standards. The park also has Green Flag accreditation, an international standard for publicly accessible parks and green spaces.

Frasers Property has also recently retained its 4-star rating in the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) rankings for the third successive year, in recognition of the company’s continued sustainable innovation and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) efforts.

Inspiring growth

As Lenovo continues to innovate and grow within their eco-friendly space at Farnborough Business Park, they serve as an inspiring example to other businesses. They’ve set the bar high for office fit outs and everyone looking to make a change for the better.
